dar-se que o Espírito protetor abandone o seu protegido, por se lhe mostrar
este rebelde aos conselhos?
“Afasta-se,
quando vê que seus conselhos são inúteis e que mais forte é, no seu protegido,
a decisão de submeter-se à influência dos Espíritos inferiores. Mas não o
abandona completamente e sempre se faz ouvir. É então o homem quem tapa os
ouvidos. O protetor volta desde que este o chame.
“É uma doutrina,
esta, dos anjos guardiães, que, pelo seu encanto e doçura, deveria converter os
mais incrédulos. Não vos parece grandemente consoladora a ideia de terdes
sempre junto de vós seres que vos são superiores, prontos sempre a vos
aconselhar e amparar, a vos ajudar na ascensão da abrupta montanha do bem; mais
sinceros e dedicados amigos do que todos os que mais intimamente se vos liguem

desses amigos a quem não podeis ver, mas cujo brando influxo vossa alma sente,
ao mesmo tempo que lhes ouve os ponderados conselhos.

conhecêsseis bem esta verdade! Quanto vos ajudaria nos momentos de crise!
Quanto vos livraria dos maus Espíritos! Mas, oh! Quantas vezes, no dia solene,
não se verá esse anjo constrangido a vos observar: “Não te aconselhei isto?
Entretanto, não o fizeste. Não te mostrei o abismo? Contudo, nele te
precipitaste! Não fiz ecoar na tua consciência a voz da verdade? Preferiste, no
entanto, seguir os conselhos da mentira!” Oh! Interrogai os vossos anjos
guardiães; estabelecei entre eles e vós essa terna intimidade que reina entre os
melhores amigos. Não penseis em lhes ocultar nada, pois que eles têm o olhar de
Deus e não podeis enganá-los. Pensai no futuro; procurai adiantar-vos na vida
presente. Assim fazendo, encurtareis vossas provas e mais felizes tornareis as
vossas existências. Vamos, homens, coragem! De uma vez por todas, lançai para
longe todos os preconceitos e pensamentos ocultos. Entrai na nova senda que
diante dos passos se vos abre. Caminhai! Tendes guias, segui-os, que não
falhareis em atingir a meta, porquanto essa meta é o próprio Deus.
“Aos que
considerem impossível que Espíritos verdadeiramente elevados se consagrem a
tarefa tão laboriosa e de todos os instantes, diremos que nós vos influenciamos
as almas, estando embora muitos milhões de léguas distantes de vós. O espaço,
para nós, nada é, e não obstante viverem noutro mundo, os nossos Espíritos
conservam suas ligações com os vossos. Gozamos de qualidades que não podeis
compreender, mas ficai certos de que Deus não nos impôs tarefa superior às
nossas forças e de que não vos deixou sós na Terra, sem amigos e sem amparo.
Cada anjo guardião tem o seu protegido, pelo qual vela, como o pai pelo filho.
Alegra-se, quando o vê no bom caminho; sofre, quando ele lhe despreza os
conselhos.

fatigar-nos com as vossas perguntas. Ao contrário, procurai estar sempre em
relação conosco. Sereis assim mais fortes e mais felizes. São essas
comunicações de cada um com o seu Espírito familiar que fazem sejam médiuns

se espalharão qual oceano sem margens, levando de roldão a incredulidade e a

Nada tem de
surpreendente a doutrina dos anjos guardiães, a velarem pelos seus protegidos,
malgrado a distância que medeia entre os mundos. É, ao contrário, grandiosa e
sublime. Não vemos na Terra o pai velar pelo filho, ainda que de muito longe, e
auxiliá-lo com seus conselhos correspondendo-se com ele? Que motivo de espanto
haverá, então, em que os Espíritos possam, de um outro mundo, guiar os que
tomaram sob sua proteção, uma vez que, para eles, a distância que vai de um
mundo a outro é menor do que a que, na Terra, separa os continentes? Não
dispõem, além disso, do fluido universal, que entrelaça todos os mundos,
tornando-os solidários; veículo imenso da transmissão dos pensamentos, como o
ar é, para nós, o da transmissão do som?
496. O Espírito
que abandona o seu protegido, que deixa de lhe fazer bem, pode fazer-lhe mal?
“Os bons
Espíritos nunca fazem mal. Deixam que o façam aqueles que lhes tomam o lugar.
Costumais então lançar à conta da sorte as desgraças que vos acabrunham, quando
só as sofreis por culpa vossa.”
497. Pode um
Espírito protetor deixar o seu protegido à mercê de outro Espírito que lhe
queira fazer mal?
“Os maus
Espíritos se unem para neutralizar a ação dos bons. Mas, se o quiser, o
protegido dará toda a força ao seu protetor. Pode acontecer que o bom Espírito
encontre alhures uma boa vontade a ser auxiliada. Aplica-se então a isso,
enquanto aguarda o momento de voltar ao seu protegido.”
498. Será por
não poder lutar contra Espíritos maléficos que um Espírito protetor deixa que
seu protegido se transvie na vida?
“Não é porque
não possa, mas porque não quer. E não quer, porque das provas sai o seu
protegido mais instruído e perfeito. Assiste-o sempre com seus conselhos,
dando-os por meio dos bons pensamentos que lhe inspira, mas que infelizmente
nem sempre são ouvidos. A fraqueza, o descuido ou o orgulho do homem são
exclusivamente o que empresta força aos maus Espíritos, cujo poder todo advém
do fato de lhes não opordes resistência.”
499. O Espírito
protetor está constantemente com o seu protegido? Não haverá alguma
circunstância em que, sem abandoná-lo, ele o perca de vista?
“Há
circunstâncias em que não é necessário esteja o Espírito protetor junto do seu
protegido.”
500. Chegará um
tempo em que o Espírito deixe de precisar de anjos guardiães?
“Sim, quando ele
atinge o ponto de poder guiar-se a si mesmo, como sucede ao estudante, para o
qual um momento chega em que não mais precisa de mestre. Isso, porém, não se dá
na Terra.”
501. Por que é
oculta a ação dos Espíritos sobre a nossa existência e por que, quando nos
protegem, não o fazem de modo ostensivo?
“Se vos fosse
dado contar sempre com a ação deles, não obraríeis por vós mesmos e o vosso
Espírito não progrediria. Para que este possa adiantar-se, precisa de
experiência, adquirindo-a frequentemente à sua custa. É necessário que exercite
suas forças, sem o que seria como a criança a quem não consentem que ande
sozinha. A ação dos Espíritos que vos querem bem é sempre regulada de maneira
que não vos tolha o livre-arbítrio, porquanto, se não tivésseis
responsabilidade, não avançaríeis na senda que vos há de conduzir a Deus. Não
vendo quem o ampara, o homem se confia às suas próprias forças. Sobre ele,
entretanto, vela o seu guia e, de tempos a tempos, lhe brada, advertindo-o do

protetor que consegue trazer ao bom caminho o seu protegido lucra algum bem
para si?
“Constitui isso
um mérito que lhe é levado em conta, seja para seu progresso, seja para sua
felicidade. Sente-se ditoso quando vê bem-sucedidos os seus esforços, o que
representa, para ele, um triunfo, como triunfo é, para um preceptor, os bons
êxitos do seu educando.”

com as angústias da paternidade terrena, porque ele sabe que há remédio para o

make themselves heard. Their wards are the ones who shut their ears. As soon as
incarnates call them back, the spirits return.”

theory that could win over the biggest skeptics by its charm and beauty, it is
that of guardian angels. To think that you always have a superior being by your

fnd it impossible to believe that high spirits would commit to such a grueling
task requiring infnite patience, we respond that these spirits infuence your
souls from afar. Space is nothing to us and our spirits can be connected to

The concept of
guardian angels watching over us, despite the distance between worlds, is as
natural as it is grand and sublime. Do parents not watch over their children
through the wise suggestions in letters when distance separates them? Why
should you be surprised that spirits guide their charges from one world to
another? Don’t they have the universal fuid that binds all the worlds together,
and unite them in solidarity - an immense vehicle for transmitting thought,
just as air is the vehicle for sound?
496. If spirits
abandon their charges and no longer help them, can they harm them?
“Good spirits
never cause harm to anyone. They leave that to inferior spirits. You then
accuse fate of the bad luck or troubles that plague you, but they are the result
of your own bad behavior.”
497. Can
protective spirits leave their charges at the mercy of spirits wanting to do
them harm?
“Wicked spirits
band together to counteract the good, but if wards would so desire, they could
restore all the power to the protective spirit. While waiting for the return of
their charges, protective spirits may fnd other individuals whose kindness and
openness make it easy to help them.”
498. When
protective spirits allow their wards to go astray, is it because they are
unable to manage the malicious spirits who mislead them?
“No, it is not
because they can’t but because they choose not to. Their wards will become
wiser and better through the trials they have chosen for themselves. Protective
spirits assist their wards through the wise guidance they provide however,
unfortunately, sometimes they are ignored. The weakness, carelessness, or pride
of humans is what gives strength to bad spirits. Their power over you comes
solely from your lack of willpower to provide enough resistance to their
action.”
499. Do
protective spirits always accompany their charges? Are there any circumstances
under which they may lose sight of them, without completely abandoning them?
“There are
circumstances under which the presence of the protective spirit is not
necessary.”
500. Do spirits
ever reach a point where they no longer need a guardian angel?
“Yes, when they
are able to guide themselves, in the same manner that students reach a point
where they no longer need a teacher. However, this does not take place on
Earth.”
501. Why is the
role that spirits have in our lives covert? Why do they not openly protect and
guide us?
“If you counted
on their support, you would not act of your own accord, which would cause your
spirit to remain stationary. All human beings need to acquire experience, often
at their own expense, in order to advance. They need to exercise their own
power, otherwise they remain stunted, like a child who is not allowed to walk
alone. The action of spirits is regulated so that your free will is maintained.
Without responsibility, you would not advance on the road leading to God. Human
beings put forth their own strength because they do not see their invisible
support. Their guides continue to watch over them, and call out to them to warn
them of danger when necessary.”

guardian angels succeed in leading their charges down the right path, do they
gain any beneft for themselves?
“It is an
admirable task, which is credited to them for their advancement or happiness.
They celebrate when they are successful, and feel a sense of triumph in the
same way that teachers are elated at the success of their students.”

responsible if their wards do not succeed?
“No, since they
have done everything that they could.”
503. Do
protective spirits get upset when their wards proceed down the wrong road? Does
it upset their own happiness?
“They are
saddened by the errors of their wards and feel pity for them, but they do not
experience the anguish of human parents because they know that if the wrongs
committed by their wards are not remedied today, they will be tomorrow.”
