Caracteres do homem de bem.

918. Por que indícios se pode reconhecer em um homem o progresso real que lhe elevará o Espírito na hierarquia espírita?

“O espírito prova a sua elevação quando todos os atos de sua vida corporal representam a prática da lei de Deus, e quando antecipadamente compreende a vida espiritual.”

O verdadeiro homem de bem é o que pratica a lei de justiça, amor e caridade, na sua maior pureza. Se interrogar a própria consciência sobre os atos que praticou, perguntará se não transgrediu essa lei, se não fez o mal, se fez todo o bem que podia, se ninguém tem motivos para dele se queixar, enfim se fez aos outros o que desejara que lhe fizessem.

Possuído do sentimento de caridade e de amor ao próximo, faz o bem pelo bem, sem contar com qualquer retribuição, e sacrifica seus interesses à justiça.

É bondoso, humanitário e benevolente para com todos, porque vê irmãos em todos os homens, sem distinção de raças, nem de crenças.

Se Deus lhe outorgou o poder e a riqueza, considera essas coisas como UM DEPÓSITO, de que lhe cumpre usar para o bem. Delas não se envaidece, por saber que aquele que lhas deu também lhas pode retirar.

Se sob a sua dependência a ordem social colocou outros homens, trata-os com bondade e benevolência, porque são seus iguais perante Deus. Usa da sua autoridade para lhes levantar o moral e não para os esmagar com seu orgulho.

É indulgente para com as fraquezas alheias, porque sabe que também precisa da indulgência dos outros, lembrando-se destas palavras do Cristo: Atire a primeira pedra aquele que estiver sem pecado.

Não é vingativo. A exemplo de Jesus, perdoa as ofensas, para só se lembrar dos benefícios, pois não ignora que, como houver perdoado, assim perdoado lhe será.

Respeita, enfim, em seus semelhantes, todos os direitos que as leis da natureza lhes concedem, como quer que os mesmos direitos lhe sejam respeitados.

Characteristics of the Virtuous Man

918. Are there signs indicating that humans have achieved the progress that will raise them in the spirit hierarchy?

“The elevation of incarnate spirits is demonstrated by the compliance of all their actions in the physical life with God’s law, and by their understanding of spiritual life.”

Truly virtuous individuals are those who practice the law of justice, love and charity, in their purest form. If people question their consciences in regard to their actions, they will ask themselves whether they have violated the law or done anything wrong, whether they have done all the good in their power, whether no one has reason to complain about them, and whether they have done to others everything that they would wish others to do to them.

When people are overwhelmed by feelings of charity and kindness for all, they do good for the sake of doing good, without looking for a reward, and they sacrifice their interests for justice.

They are kind, compassionate and humane to all, because they view everyone as their brothers and sisters, regardless of race or creed.

If God has given them power and wealth, they consider them DEPOSITS confided to them for the general good. They are not arrogant because they know that what God has given God can take away at any time.

When society makes people dependent on them, they treat them with kindness and compassion, as equals before God. They use authority to elevate them morally, rather than crushing them with their pride.

They are indulgent in relation to others’ weaknesses, knowing that they too need indulgence, and remembering Christ’s words, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

They are not vindictive and follow the example of Jesus, forgiving all offenses, as they know that they will only obtain forgiveness as they forgive others and themselves. Finally, they respect the rights of others, as established by the law of nature, as they would want others to respect their rights.

918. Per kiaj signoj oni povas konstati ĉe la homo la realan progreson, kiu lin altigos en la spirita hierarkio?

“La Spirito atestas sian altan rangon, kiam ĉiuj faroj de lia enkorpa vivo estas la praktikado de la leĝo de Dio kaj kiam li anticipe komprenas la spiritan vivon.”

La vere virta homo estas tiu, kiu praktikas la leĝon de justeco, amo kaj karitato laŭ ties plej alta pureco. Demandante sian konsciencon pri la agoj, kiujn li faris, li devas ankaŭ demandi sin mem, ĉu li ne malobeis tiun leĝon, ĉu li ne faris malbonon, ĉu li faris ĉian bonon, kiun li povus fari, ĉu iu ne havas ian motivon por plendi kontraŭ li, kaj, fine, ĉu li faris al aliaj tion, kion li dezirus, ke ili faru al li.

La homo, posedita de la sento de karitato kaj de amo al sia proksimulo, faras bonon pro amo al bono, ne esperante repagon, kaj foroferas sian propran intereson al la justeco.

Li estas bona, humana kaj korfavora por ĉiuj, ĉar li rigardas ĉiujn homojn kiel siajn fratojn, sen ia distingo je rasoj aŭ kredoj.

Se Dio donis al li potencon kaj riĉecon, li konsideras ĉi tiujn kiel deponitaĵon, kiun li devas uzi por bono; li ne fieras pro tio, ĉar li scias, ke Dio, kiu ilin donis al li, povas ankaŭ ilin de li forpreni.

Se la socia ordo metis aliajn homojn sub lian estrecon, li traktas ilin milde kaj bonvole, ĉar ili estas egalaj al li antaŭ Dio; li uzas sian aŭtoritaton por ilin moraligi kaj ne por ilin subpremi per sia malhumileco.

Li estas indulgema kontraŭ la neperfektaĵoj de sia proksimulo, ĉar li scias, ke li mem ankaŭ bezonas indulgemon, kaj li memoras jenajn vortojn de la Kristo: Kiu el vi estas senpeka, tiu unua ĵetu sur ŝin ŝtonon.

Li ne estas venĝema: laŭ la ekzemplo de Jesuo, li pardonas siajn ofendantojn kaj memoras nur bonfarojn; ĉar li ja scias, ke estos al li pardonite laŭ tio, kiel li estos mem pardoninta.

Fine, li respektas ĉe siaj similuloj ĉiajn rajtojn, donatajn de la leĝoj de la Naturo, kiel li deziras, ke liaj rajtoj estu respektataj.
